Council sought community feedback on a proposal to convert Boronia Lane to a one-way street southbound between Lovell Road and Henderson Street, Denistone East.

What are the proposed changes?

Council is proposing to convert Boronia Lane to one-way southbound between Lovell Road and Henderson Street, Denistone East.

The proposed changes and associated signage can be viewed below.

Why are the changes being considered?

Council has received recurring representations from our community to improve pedestrian safety on Boronia Lane, in particular during school zone times.

Boronia Lane is used by pedestrians to access Lovell Road, with increased numbers during the school term. Due to the narrow width, the installation of a footpath on either side of Boronia Lane is not possible. The school and local community has raised concerns for pedestrian safety with two-way traffic in this narrow laneway.

Following investigations into a number of options, Council is proposing to convert a section of Boronia Lane between Lovell Road and Henderson Street to one-way.

The conversion of Boronia Lane to one-way southbound will also support proposed parking changes in Brabyn Street and Henderson Street to improve traffic and safety conditions during school drop-off and pick-up times. The southbound direction on Boronia Lane will facilitate traffic flow for vehicles accessing new drop-off and pick-up locations on Brabyn Street and Henderson Street. We will be engaging directly with impacted residents on Brabyn Street and Henderson Street from late February 2025.
