City of Ryde is seeking feedback on a proposal to change the scheme currently offering free Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre (RALC) entry to eligible resident pensioners and health care cardholders.

While we value supporting active and healthy lifestyles for vulnerable groups, Council must acknowledge the increased costs associated with the scheme combined with increased costs to operate the RALC. The RALC is now over 25 years old, and significant investment will be required in the coming years to upgrade and modernise this much-loved facility.

Last financial year (FY2024/25), the scheme cost $426,029 to provide 58,154 free entries. In comparison, in FY2022/23, the scheme cost $268,275 to provide 40,810 entries.

Council is committed to providing fairness and equity - we welcome feedback on the level to which our broader community wish to continue supporting this scheme with the following discount options proposed to commence next financial year (FY2026/27):

Please note:

  • Proposed options are based on a percentage discount from the adult price.
  • Prices shown are estimated entry costs for FY2026/27.
  • Discounted rates may increase annually as they are linked to the adult entry price which typically rises with Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustments.
